Campaign
Finance Reform
[ send
me this paper ]
(5pp). In 1974 Congress passed a set of laws that changed
the amount of money which could be donated to an individual
campaign. Contributions to candidates are now limited to
$1,000, per contributor, that's called hard money. But of
course many people and organizations, including special
interest groups such as defense contractors, the gambling
industry, organized labor have more money that they would
like to spend on politics than they can get to candidates in
$1,000 increments. So they give much larger amounts to
advocacy groups, political action committees and the
political party. That is called soft money. Not much else
has happened in the last 25 years of discussion.

Nixon with that of Andrew Johnson, referring to the

Economic
Policies: George W. Bush And Bill Clinton
[ send
me this paper ]
15 pages in length. Public opinion has a tendency to waver
between obediently accepting and vehemently disapproving of
presidential economic policies. While some thought that
President Clinton's policies represented the fundamental
contributions of his administration, others believed that
the nation's economic situation only continued to worsen
with him in office. George W. Bush maintains a constituency
just about as divided, and he has not even been in office
for six months. How do the two presidents' economic policies
compare? Bibliography lists 15 sources.

Election
2000 and the Appointment of Supreme Court Justices
[ send
me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses the fact that the president
appoints the justices of the Supreme Court, thereby
influencing interpretation of Constitutional law for many
years to come. The argument has been raised that it is an
important enough issue that the American voters have a right
to know what qualities either Vice President Al Gore or
Governor George W. Bush will seek out in a justice he might
appoint. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

Fawn
M. Brodie's 'Thomas Jefferson : An Intimate History'
[ send
me this paper ]
A 5 page analysis of 'Thomas Jefferson: an Intimate History'
by Fawn M. Brodie. It has always seemed contradictory that
the man who wrote that "all men are created equal"
was a slave owner, and that it was rumored he had a
long-standing sexual relationship with one of his black
slaves. Brodie's work does an admirable job of reconciling
these discrepancies as she argues that Jefferson's actions
made sense in the context of his own time and were
consistent with his own philosophy. No additional sources
cited.

FDR's
"Splendid Deception" and its Motivations
[ send
me this paper ]
A 5 page paper discussing FDR's efforts in hiding his
paralysis from the American public in relation to Smith's
views of public and private behavior. Critics of
laissez-faire economics claim that the stance is hard and
uncaring, that government needs to do more for the people it
governs. Adam Smith's characterizations of market behavior
being motivated by self-interest is seen to preclude any
participation in warmth or altruism. Smith himself had no
difficulty in reconciling these motivations, and neither did
Franklin D. Roosevelt. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

FDR's
"Splendid Deception" and its Motivations
[ send
me this paper ]
A 6 page paper discussing FDR's efforts in hiding his
paralysis from the American public in relation to Charles
Smith's views of public and private behavior argued in
Critique of Sociological Reasoning. Smith holds that all
human behavior, including that resulting from the experience
of disability, can be categorized into three levels. The
experience of Franklin D. Roosevelt is used here to
illustrate those levels and then proclaim that while FDR
operated from all three levels, it was Level 3, the most
altruistic, that could most frequently describe his behavior
as related to his disability. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

First
Ladies Of The 20th Century
[ send

11 pages in length. Twentieth century first ladies have done
much to enhance to nation's appeal. While some were
relatively absent from the political scene due to illness or
quiet demeanor, others stepped forward into the limelight

McKinley to Hillary Rodham Clinton, America's first ladies
of the twentieth century have been instrumental in forging

Franklin
Pierce, America's 14th President
[ send
me this paper ]
An 11 page paper discussing the administration and
background of the 14th President. Franklin Pierce was not a
bad president, but neither was he an exceptionally good one.
He set off to plot a course for the country that he believed
would be beneficial, but the expansion to which Pierce was
dedicated succeeded only in inflaming calls for war. Though
he believed he was taking the nation forward, in reality he
was taking it forward into civil war. His personal life was
tragic, and it appears he chose not to see the tragedy of
the Civil War toward which his policies took the country.
Most personal details are from the 1852 account of friend
Nathaniel Hawthorne. Bibliography lists 9 sources.

George
Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison: Views on
Powers of Government and the Two Party System
[ send

A 5 page discussion of the political views of these three
founding fathers. Suggests that a debate between Washington,
in particular, and modern day political scientists would
reveal many differences. Although admittedly our government
has become considerably more complex over time, Washington
would undoubtedly still hold to his viewpoints of limited
government powers and as to the dangers of a two party
political system. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

In
Defense Of Bill Clinton And His Pardons
[ send
me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Upholding the office of United States
Presidents inherently affords one the opportunity to wield
certain power privileges as supported by the Constitution.
One of these advantage, according to Article II, Section II
of this historical document, is that the president shall
have Power to Grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses
against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.
That other politicians or even the general public did not
support some of the people who have been pardoned through
the years did not matter; rather, the President of the
United States possesses the sole discretion of who is
pardoned and how many are pardoned regardless of outside
opinion. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Integrated
Marketing Communication and the Final Weeks of the
Presidential Campaign
[ send
me this paper ]
This 15 page report discusses integrated marketing
communication and Al Gore’s campaign for the presidency.
In the final weeks of the race, campaign strategists must
calculate ways to win enough states to amass the 270
Electoral College votes needed to win the White House. As a
result, their strategies depend on reaching the greatest
number of voters to assure that they win those voters’
states’ share of the electoral votes. A focused and
integrated marketing effort is absolutely essential for
success. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

[ send

10 pp) This November 22 will mark the 35th anniversary of
the slaying of John Fitzgerald Kennedy. And as the memories

theorizes about the "truth" behind Kennedy's death

Life,
Liberty & The Pursuit Of Happiness / Still Far Off
[ send
me this paper ]
5 pages in length. The concept was clear, and the idea was
even carried out for a time, but the overall effectiveness
of Thomas Jefferson's revolutionary vision of life, liberty
and the pursuit of happiness is far from being realized in
America. Jefferson's vision was originally created to
provide for the protection of a person's natural rights, his
ability to make his own way and to obtain contentment
without the infringement of government or any other
oppressive source. The writer discusses how this may have
been realized to some extent but, for the most part,
continues to evade the majority. Bibliography lists 4

Looking
at Bill Clinton through a Motivational Microscope
[ send

(6pp) McClelland asserted that people acquired different
needs over time as a result of life experiences. He
identified three needs that affect motivation of individuals
and organizations: "1. Need for Achievement - The
desire to do something better or more efficiently to solve
problems, or to grasp and solve complex problems. 2. Need
for Affiliation - The desire to establish and maintain
friendly and warm relations with others. 3. Need for Power -
The desire to control others, to influence their behavior,
or to be responsible for others." Bill Clinton is used
as the case study for these motivational theories.

Lyndon
B. Johnson's Great Society
[ send
me this paper ]
A 5 page discussion of Lyndon B. Johnson's Great Society.
Johnson initiated numerous economic programs which would
collectively be identified as the "Great Society".
The nation was in an economic decline and the Vietnam War
toiled on the minds of the citizens. Johnson's intent in
creating the Great Society was to lessen poverty by creating
new jobs and strengthening areas of the economy which were
weak. His war on poverty would, for all appearances, be
successful. It would be a short-lived success, however. The
Great Society would soon be revealed as taking a heavy toll
on American economics.

from a Southern state to be elected president of the United
States for more than a century. He became president on
November 22, 1963, hours after the assassination of
President John F. Kennedy in Texas. In 1964 Johnson was
elected to a full four-year term by the largest popular
majority in modern U.S. history. His triumph represented a

Negative
Campaigning in Presidential Elections
[ send

6 pages in length. Possibly one of the most potentially
devastating tactics used in election campaigns today is that
of negative campaigning against opponents. But did you know

A 5 page report on Peggy Noonan's 1990 book. Speechwriter
for Ronald Reagan and George Bush, Noonan gives a view of
Washington of laughable images of self-importance while
being pragmatic about herself and her own role. Of
Irish-Catholic and middle class roots, Noonan gives a highly
readable and humorous account of her interactions with those

Political
Views of Democratic Presidential Candidate Al Gore
Contrasted With Past Republican President Ronald Reagan
[ send
me this paper ]
A 7 page assertion that the political views of Democratic
presidential candidate Al Gore and past Republican president
Ronald Reagan differ tremendously. Al Gore has been a major
participant of an administration which has shown no
reluctance to fabricate an issue designed to cover events
unfavorable to the administration and to promote falsehoods
and misinformation to further an agenda. His liberal stance
is directly contradictory to that of the conservative
Reagan. Concludes that despite his previous career as an
actor, Ronald Reagan became known for his truthful
confrontation of the issues, a reputation which Al Gore is
most likely never to achieve. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Reconstruction/Congressional Plans: 1865-1877
[ send

3 pages in length. Defining the relationships that existed
between and among government, politics, democracy and power
in the mid-1800s was a task that drew its conclusion upon a
very fine line. Indeed, while all four of these entities had
something significant to do with one another, at the same
time they each possessed their own particular arrangement
within the wide and varied scheme of bureaucratic function.
The writer discusses the elements that played an integral
role in the modification of the presidential reconstruction.

Presidential
Slogans and Campaigns
[ send
me this paper ]
7 pages. Presidential campaign slogans began with the
election of Andrew Jackson in 1828 and his nickname 'Old
Hickory.' While visual media did not create that campaign at
the time, today we find that the media has more and more to
do with the creation of certain slogans and images within
presidential campaigns. Much like advertising, these slogans
help keep an image in the public eye, and by bombarding us
with this image over and over, it is hoped that we will
become impacted by this image to the exclusion of all
others. This type of advertising ploy is used in everything
from products to political campaigns, but the emphasis in
this paper is on the presidential campaigns, particularly
those on campaigns since 1960. A comparison of several
campaigns is included in this interesting outlook, as well
as how a campaign slogan can oftentimes be the tiebreaker in
the mind of a voter. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

Presidents:
Plus and Minus.
[ send
me this paper ]
(5 pp) Although our assignment said to write about the best
and worst Presidents of the United States, it seemed that
once someone finally did get elected, that they did have
some qualities that would indicate, they were probably
sharper than most pencils in the box, I am thinking about
them in a plus and minus category. This would indicate that
the minus president fell below, what was normal for the
office and the positive president moved above what was
"normal" for the office. Although some of the
"measuring" has also been determined by what
history has given each of these men as a political stage, or
the events that occurred while they were in office, I tried
to look for qualities that would show how they reacted to
the events that they were given. Bibliography lists 1 source

Reagan
[ send

A 5 page paper that discusses the book “Reagan,” by Lou
Cannon. Cannon has written two books about former President
Reagan, this being the first, written while Reagan was still
in office. We examine how Cannon portrays Reagan, which is
in a manner that illustrates a unique character that somehow
existed in a fantasy world in many ways. He was a unique man
and Cannon illustrates this in a very unbiased manner.
Cannon merely presents the reader with the incidents and
realities that involved this man while he was in office. A
very enlightening book for anyone interested in looking at
one of the most unique presidents of our time. No additional

Richard
Nixon And Watergate: Turning Point
[ send
me this paper ]
11 pages in length. Watergate proved to be the most
significant turning point in the life of America's
thirty-seventh president, Richard M. Nixon, as well as one
of the significant turning points in American politics, as
well. The scandal that took place in 1972 at Washington,
D.C.'s Watergate apartment and office complex became the
president's worst nightmare, inasmuch as he was caught
virtually red-handed as the primary conspirator in the
Democratic National Committee headquarters break-in. This
infamous occurrence sparked an investigation that uncovered
secretly made audio tapes of conversations that Nixon had
with several top-positioned government employees attempting
to secure Nixon's re-election by illegally – and
unethically – infiltrating the opposition's home office.
Indeed, Nixon's world came crashing down when the
investigative trail lead directly to his authorization of
such damning activity; it would take two years after this
discovery for the president to resign in order to avoid
being impeached. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Ronald
Reagan / Effective Leadership
[ send

8 pages in length. Much like his political predecessors
Martin Luther King and Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan
possessed a leadership quality that set him apart from a
great many other leaders of this or any other time. The
concept of leadership is easy to define, but it is not as
easy to execute; Reagan was not only able to
characteristically recognize the inherent demands of the job
as Chief Executive of the United States, but he also rose to
the challenge consistently and uniformly. The writer
discusses the various points of effective leadership Reagan
displayed while in office. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

Teddy
Roosevelt and the Progressive Movement
[ send
me this paper ]
(10 pp) Progressives were a loosely knit group of activists,
who occasionally even seemed opposed to each other.
According to Schulz (2000), while not opposed to capitalism
as a concept they did want to change the relationship of
labor to business. Immigration was viewed as a
"problem." Some felt the solution was the
"Americanization" of immigrants; others felt
immigration should be restricted by legislation. Private
utilities and transportation methods should have some
regulations; others felt the government should straighten
out "the whole mess." Political reform was a
necessity. Could it be done, by eliminating the
"political machine," or were there other
solutions? We might say that during this time the country
was beginning to "re-think" itself, and looked for
a leader who could either provide answers or guidance. Teddy
Roosevelt was just the guy for the job! Bibliography lists 6

The
Assassination of JFK
[ send
me this paper ]
This 30 page paper considers the varying perspectives on the
assassination of John F. Kennedy. This paper considers two
specific theories: the view promoted by the federal
government that supports the single shooter theory (the
crime committed by Lee Harvey Oswald) and the less popular
perspective that the Mafia was involved in the plot to kill
JFK and utilized Marilyn Monroe as a contact. This paper
further supports this second theory, based on the lack of
solid forensic evidence to support the first theory and the
elements that support the theory of Mafia involvement.

The
Bush Administration
[ send
me this paper ]
A 15 page paper discussing the management technique of this
president. President George Bush is maligned by some,
labeled ineffective by others. In retrospect, there were
telling signs that Bush was a president of a single facet,
that of foreign policy. His domestic policies often were the
victims of systemic inadequacies in the administration. Of
course a single person cannot "run" the
government, and his success largely depends on his ability
to exercise sound management and surround himself with good
people. George Bush was deficient in both areas.

were close to his heart, of which the most important was
freedom. His political skill was surpassed only by the

Thomas
Jefferson / The Man Who Changed The Destiny Of Our Country
[ send
me this paper ]
An 8 page paper discussing Thomas Jefferson and the country
before, and during, the time of his election. The
Federalists had implemented Alien and Sedition Acts which
severely threatened the freedoms the people had fought so
hard for. While this was not the fault of President Adams,
it did occur during his term in office and illustrated to
the people that something needed to be done if they wished
to see their hopes and dreams prosper. The election of
Jefferson illustrated the people's strength and helped turn
the country down the true path of freedom. Without the
presence, and the ideals, of Jefferson, this country would
be no better off than other countries that have no freedom.
